Wilmer Henry "Willy" Langstraat was born on March 23, 1942, in Hull, Iowa, the son of Fred and Alice (Klein) Langstraat. He attended country school in Sioux County for a time before moving with his family to Jasper, Minnesota, in 1953. Willy graduated from Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton, Minnesota, with the Class of 1959. Following graduation, he hauled and tested milk before beginning his career with Woodstock Elevator.
On October 13, 1967, Willy was united in marriage to Marcella Jasper in Woodstock, Minnesota. They made their home in Woodstock until 1979, when they moved to George, Iowa. Willy then began working at Sudenga Manufacturing, where he remained until his retirement. After retirement, he began working for Snellers Total Harvest hauling silage.
Willy was a faithful member of Hope Reformed Church, where he served as both an elder and a deacon. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to gospel music, bowling, and keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook. One of his favorite daily traditions was gathering with friends for coffee at Pizza Ranch in George. Above all, Willy treasured attending his granddaughters' activities and spending time with his family and friends. His quiet faith, kind heart, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Terri (Brian) Borman of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and their daughter, Haley of Rock Rapids; and Kristie (Scott) Simonsen of Sheldon, Iowa, and their daughters, Mikayla (Bryant) Dykstra of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Keely Simonsen of Brookings, South Dakota. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Susan Jensen (Brian) of Lake Shetek, Minnesota; Betty (Bruce) Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Beverly (JJ) Avila of McAllen, Texas; his brother-in-law, Randy (Cindy) Jasper of Pipestone, Minnesota; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Willy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcella Langstraat; an infant son; his parents, Fred and Alice Langstraat; his sister, Sharon Haack; his parents-in-law, Bernard and Emma Jasper; his sister-in-law, Marsha Wright; and his nephew, Eric Reichenberger.
