Sibley, Iowa Thomas E. “Tom” Kreber, 84, died on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Cottonwood Place Assisted Living in Columbus, Nebraska after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 7th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in in Ashton, with full military honors by William Ben Hoffman American Legion Post No. 290 Visitation will be Thursday, January 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s Church in Ashton, also there will be a 6:45 PM Vigil service at the church Thursday evening. Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of services Tom was born in Alvord, Iowa to Edward and Marcella (Fettes) Kreber on September 15, 1937. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Ashton, Iowa. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in California for two years. Tom married the love of his life, Helen Shovlain, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa on January 20, 1973. From this union, they had two sons, Thomas (Tom) and Gerald (Jerry). They made their home in Des Moines, Iowa where Tom worked at Ruan Transportation for over 20 years before retiring from the Information Technology department. After retiring, the family moved to Sibley, Iowa where Tom spent his days working with his brother Jim on the family farm where he was raised and also was employed at Chase Bag Company for several years. Tom was a lifelong, devoted Catholic who was active in his church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a loving and devoted husband, amazing father, and a wonderful grandfather. Tom always had a smile for those he met and lived his life with kindness and generosity. He will be missed terribly and loved always. In his free time, Tom enjoyed showing his classic car in area car shows. When Tom wasn’t farming, he enjoyed reading, following the stock market, and most importantly, keeping up with his grandkids and their activities. Tom will be fondly remembered by his two sons, Tom (Carrie) and Jerry (Lindsey) and his grandchildren, Cole, Madelyn, Jack, Annabelle, and Amelia. He is survived in death by his brother, James (Jim) Kreber and sister, Jean Pendleton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kreber; his parents, Edward & Marcella Kreber; and siblings, William Kreber and Susan Peachy. The family would like to thank the caring professionals at Osceola Regional Health Clinic in Sibley, Sanford Home Health in Sheldon, Nurse Amy Bousema, Cottonwood Place Assisted Living in Columbus and Columbus Community Hospital Hospice team and Hospice nurse Jessica Henggeler, for the exceptional and loving care they provided. Through their compassion, expertise, and care, they helped us through this difficult time, along with the prayers from our family and friends.
