Susan Jane Vande Kop

Rock Rapids, Iowa

Susan "Sue" Jane Vande Kop passed away on January 23, 2026, while in hospice care at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD. She was surrounded by her 3 children and her sister.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA.

Sue was born and raised in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter of W. Wayne and Edith (Brower) Moeller.

In 1971, she met her husband, Robert Vande Kop, and they were married on December 4, 1971. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage until Bob’s passing on January 31, 2025.

Sue worked at Rexall Drug while attending Central Lyon High School. After graduation, she did at-home day care, worked at K-Products, Lyon Manor Nursing Home, and finally she worked at Hy-Vee in Rock Rapids and then Sioux Center. She retired from Hy-Vee in October of 2017 after 27 years.

Throughout her life, Sue loved shopping, shopping for candy, and most of all spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was confirmed as a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in 1972 and was a lifetime member until her passing. During retirement, she spent many hours with her coffee group, the Women’s Auxiliary, and her neighborhood ladies (and Mason)

She is survived by her children, Todd and Heidi (Kille) Vande Kop, Shaun Vande Kop, and Philip Martin, Bill and Kristin (Smidstra) Vande Kop, 7 grandchildren, 1 grandson-in-law, 4 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Cathy Graef.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her parents-in-law, George and Virginia Vande Kop, her brothers-in-law George “Chip” Graef and Gary (Kook) Vande Kop
