Steven Cuperus age 64, of George, Iowa died suddenly from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, October 3, 2025.

A public visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 9th with family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, October 10th at Jurrens Funeral Home of George with Pastor Ken Eberline officiating.

Steven “Steve” Peter Cuperus was born July 30, 1961 in Sioux Center, IA, the son of Peter and Carolee (Starr) Cuperus. He was raised in George and attended George Community School. He continued his education at Northwest Community College in Sheldon, IA, where he received a degree in Auto Body Repair.

He was married to Melanie Lynn Wissink on April 7, 2007.

He worked for various farms in the area and Sudenga’s Manufacturing, before he worked for Digger Duin and John Donaker for several years. He most recently volunteered his time with his friend Brian Denekas, as his goffer.

He enjoyed working on vehicles, watching Nascar, attending races at Rock Rapids Speedway, target shooting and scroll sawing with woodwork. He enjoyed yard work and will to lend a hand to his neighbors. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Lynn Cuperus of George, IA; four children, Evan (Brittany Axsom) Cuperus of Rock Rapids, IA, Ashley (Frank Bittner) De Groot of Rock Valley, IA, Amy De Groot and Alyssa (Brian) Harms, both of Hull, IA; five grandchildren, Brooklynn Dailey, Bryson and Khloe Noah, and Parker Cuperus, and Haddie Harms; his mother, Carolee Cuperus of George, IA; brother, Scott Cuperus of George, IA; sister, Shellee Maxwell of Gretna, NE; brother-in-law, Kent Wissink of Sioux Falls, SD; and sister-in-law, Sandy Wissink of Rock Rapids, IA; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Cuperus; brother-in-law, Scott Wissink; and mother-in-law, Gloria Wissink.
