Silas Jason Kroon age 3, the son of Dillan Kroon and Annie Hanson, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

Visiting hours will be Friday, August 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present, at Steen Reformed Church of Steen.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 23rd at the Steen Reformed Church of Steen.

Silas Jason Kroon, son of AnneMarie and Dillan, was born on March 19, 2022 in Windom, MN. He was born with the brightest blue eyes that sparkled when he smiled. Silas was baptized on August 9, 2025 in Iowa City, IA.

From a very young age he was fascinated by all types of vehicles, especially excavators and garbage trucks. He would tell anyone he met that he loved excavators and his favorite color was orange. His best friend in the world was his older brother Taavi. He was almost always at his brother’s side, as they were inseparable and the two often found mischief together.

Silas loved to color, and was working hard on his left hand grasp of all crayons and markers. He had a funny habit of smelling each and every crayon he used. He would giggle when he would ask others to smell the crayon. He had such a contagious and room brightening smile. His whole body would almost sparkle with happiness. He brought so much joy to everyone around him. He loved books, chocolate chip cookies and M & M’s…especially the ones at Lala and Papa’s house.

Silas loved sloths. He was often seen with a sloth underneath each arm. His family would often refer to him as “Silly little Silas”. He had a fascination with figuring out how things worked and would often be found examining the mechanics of things. He loved going to Menards and coffee shops.

Silas loved to go camping with his family. You would find him playing in the dirt near the camper with all of his dump trucks or drawing chalk with his brother. He thought it was so funny that on his last tenting trip with his mom and big brother, a group of raccoons broke into the tent late at night and found his cookie he had secretly hidden in his sleeping bag. He was proud to tell everyone about it with laughter.

On Tuesday, July 15th 2025, Silas began an unexpected and difficult journey that the family wasn’t prepared for. He was life-flighted to the University of Iowa Stead Children’s Hospital. Shockingly, he was diagnosed with a very rare heart condition that would put him in need of a heart transplant. After many procedures and surgeries, the team of doctors shared with the family that Silas was even more fragile than they originally thought. It was a month-long roller coaster of emotions for his family. Silas, a child of God, went to his heavenly home on August 14, 2025.

We hope the next time you eat a chocolate chip cookie, you think of our Silas. The next time you see an excavator or a garbage truck, you think of our Silas. The next time you see the color orange, you think of our Silas. The next time you see a Sloth, you think of our Silas.

The next time you’re listening to birds singing, you think of our Silas. The next time you watch Polar Express, you think of our Silas. The next time you’re dancing with no care in the world, you will also think of our Silly little Silas.

Silas is survived by his Mom (Annie) and his Dad (Dillan) , his brother Taavi and his soon to be born brother; Lala (Kari) and Papa (Eric) Hanson of Windom, MN; Uncle Zak and Auntie Theresa Hanson and cousin Theodore of Waconia, MN; Auntie Meegan and Uncle Kyle Wiese and cousins Evelyn and Makenna of North Mankato, MN; Auntie Chelsea Kroon and cousins Hattie and Emmie of Yankton, SD; Uncle Dallas Kroon of Mankato, MN; Godmother, Michaela Cate (Coco); Great Grandpa John Kroon of Steen, MN; Lila and Billy Kroon of Rock Rapids, IA ; Amy and BryBry (Brian) Kroon and their girls, Tristen, Taylor, Danika and Kaylee of Rock Rapids, IA and many more relatives on both sides of the family who loved Silas so much.

Silas is preceded in death by his Grandpa Jason Kroon ; Great Grandparents, Norma and J.D. Hanson, Shirley and Donald Brandt and Emilene Kroon.
