Sharon Kae Meyer

Sharon Meyer, age 82 of Sibley, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Osceola Senior Living in Sibley, Iowa.

There will be a private committal service for the family at a later date.

Sharon Kae (Waage, Sixta) Meyer, Daughter of Lars & Irene Waage, was born on March 13, 1944, in Worthington, MN, where she lived for a few years. Then she moved with her Family to a farm west of Round Lake. When her parents sold their farm, they moved to Round Lake and opened Waage’s Meat Locker and grocery store. Sharon spent many days up at the store when she was young.

Sharon was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Dale Sixta from Ocheyedan, IA, on Feb 6, 1960. The wedding was at the Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, Ocheyedan, IA.

They began their life, living on his family’s farm in a one-bedroom house that was moved in for them. No running water and the outhouse in the back. Sharon carried water from the water pump in the yard to complete her household chores and cook. Sharon was not afraid of work as long as she could work side by side with her husband. They had the opportunity to move 1 mile north to an uncle of Dale's. They moved their 2 children and belongings to the farm where they spent their lives until retirement. Sharon spent her time taking care of the yard work, doing chores, which included milking cows. If you saw Dale, you would see Sharon. They went everywhere together. A third child was born. Sharon was a dedicated Farm wife and loved life on the farm. Sharon worked with the livestock and assisted in the milking of the cows. Shar- Dale Arabians was created by raising and showing Arabian horses. Sharon did some showing, but mainly left it up to her children; she would help trim, bathe, and pack the lunch so everything was ready the next day. For 34 years, Sharon was known as a hardworking Farm wife.

Sharon worked at McDonald’s in Worthington for a short time while still on the farm. After retiring and buying a home in Sibley, Sharon worked at the Sibley-Ocheyedan School as a custodian and later went on to work at Bright Beginnings’ Day Care.

A devastating time in her life was taking care of her husband, Dale, when he was diagnosed with cancer. Sharon cared for him until his death on November 15, 2003. Sharon struggled and didn’t know how to overcome her loss. With coaxing and help from her friends, she attended single dances in Worthington, where she met Nickolas Meyer from Lake Benton. They got married and lived between Sharon’s home and His Acreage. With loving the farm, they spent most of the spring and summer in Lake Benton and the Winters in Sibley.

Nickolas Meyer passed away Jan 23, 2017. Sharon decided to sell her Sibley Home and relocated to Lake Park, where she purchased a duplex. Sharon enjoyed playing cards with her friends at Gunderson’s Restaurant. Sharon lived independently until she broke her ankle and needed extended care, where she spent time in the Lake Park Nursing home doing Rehab. Her Health prevented her from living independently. Sharon moved into Osceola Senior Care on May 7, 2024. Sharon got acquainted with Don Miller. That made her last few months enjoyable until she passed away on May 19 at the Osceola Senior Care.

Those left to Cherish her memories are her 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Lori (Marty) Richardson and their children Joseph (Staci) Holden, and their children, Jett Tenley of Thronton, CO, and Sydney and Special Friend (Matthew) of Sibley; Jolene (Ben) Ehlers, and their son, Jamin of Lake Park, IA; daughter-in-law, Lisa Sixta of Benton, MN, and her children, Jennifer (Sean) Castle of Tyler, MN, Kimberly (Chris) Wooge of Florence, MN, and Ashley (Dustin) King of Lake Benton, MN; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Julie (Ken) Ling of Pequot Lake, MN; special friend, Don Miller of Sibley, IA; and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Irene Waage; two husbands, Dale Sixta and Nickolas Meyer; son, Randy Sixta; two grandsons, Jeffrey Siemers and Jesse Richardson; and a brother, Gary Waage.
