Lester, Iowa Roy Hoogeveen, age 91 of Lester, Iowa died Friday, September 17, 2021, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA. Family and friends will gather at Bethel Reformed Church in Lester, IA on Tuesday, September 21st for a prayer at 9:45 AM and travel in procession to Hillside Cemetery for the committal service, with military honors by the Edward Bouwman American Legion Post No. 683. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at Bethel Reformed Church, with Pastor Steve Meester officiating. Visitation will be Monday, September 20th from 4:00 to 7:30 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the Bethel Reformed Church of Lester. Roy Gerald Hoogeveen was born December 11, 1929, the son of Harry and Rhoda (Jongerius) Hoogeveen. He was raised in the Lester area and graduated from Lester High School. He continued his education for 1 year at Central before entering the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on November 16, 1952. Roy returned home to Lester and was united in marriage to Donna Stallenga on February 24, 1953. Eight children were blessed to this union. Roy farmed most of his life. Later in life he worked at Austad’s Golf in Sioux Falls, SD and as a custodian at West Lyon Community School. He was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Lester where he was very active with various church activities. He played for many years with the Lester Fastpitch Softball Team who recently honored his legacy with the naming of the Roy G Hoogeveen Field. He enjoyed attending West Lyon activities and loved the Northwestern Red Raiders. He was happiest when he was supporting his grandkids. Roy and Donna were honored with Parents of the Year at Northwestern College and selected into the West Lyon Hall of Fame. On December 3, 2010, Roy’s wife Donna passed away. Roy remained active in the community until he entered the Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids in September of 2020. He is survived by his children, Daryl (wife Polly) Hoogeveen of Larchwood, IA, Ronda (husband Howie) Boote of Lester, IA, Dean (wife Judy) Hoogeveen of Hull, IA, Deb (husband Randy) Mouw of Coupeville, WA, Joel (wife Rachel) Hoogeveen of Orange City, IA, Jerry Hoogeveen of Lester, IA, Sheri (husband Tim) Snyder of Larchwood, IA and Jeff (wife Missy) of Lester, IA; twenty-seven grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob (wife Esther) Hoogeveen of Omaha, NE; a sister-in-law, Lila Hoogeveen of Griswold, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded by his parents, Harry and Rhoda Hoogeveen; stepmother, Henrietta Hoogeveen; two brothers, Marvin (wife Wilma) Hoogeveen, and Jay Hoogeveen; one sister, Arlo (husband Ed) Weerheim; and infant granddaughter, Tammie Hoogeveen.
