Ronald Steinberg

September 10, 1945 — February 20, 2021

Rock Rapids, IA

Ronald “Ron” Steinberg died on Saturday February 20th peacefully at his home in Glenwood, Minnesota after living with, and being treated for prostate cancer for years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with Pastor Alex Sloter officiating.

Public visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3rd at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Ron was born in September, 1945 to his parents Edna and Andrew Steinberg in Rock Rapids, Iowa where he would live most of his life and he would always cherish.  Ron grew up on farms outside of Rock Rapids with his family (his parents and younger sister Marlys).  He attended country schools and eventually Central Lyon High in Rock Rapids.  After graduating from high school, Ron briefly moved to Kansas City where he attended automotive and electrical school.  He’d learn skills there which would make him everyone’s favorite friend and a great neighbor—he seemingly knew how to fix or repair anything.

After attending school in Kansas City, Ron moved back to Rock Rapids and eventually worked at the Lyon Rural Electric Co-op as a lineman and then Superintendent.  Even after he left the REC in 2001, he remained connected to his REC family.

In July, 1967 Ron married Judy (Rustman) Steinberg in Rock Rapids.  They were married (53 years) until Ron’s death, and had 2 sons (Robert & Michael).  The family lived in Rock Rapids.

Ron joined the Air National Guard 174th Tactical Squadron in Sioux City, Iowa, and was deployed to Vietnam where he served as a Sergeant and crew chief from 1968 to 1969.  He was a proud veteran, and was close to many he served with throughout his life.

In 2001, Ron and Judy moved to Glenwood, Minnesota where they enjoyed living next to Lake Minnewaska.  There, Ron started a small business where he worked with other Rural Electric Co-ops throughout the area.  He was able to spend more time fishing which was one of his favorite hobbies.  He continued his love of “fixer-up” projects, and built a large shop at their lake property just for that.  He was also quick to lend a helping hand to any neighbor who needed it.

Many who knew Ron remarked that he always had the best stories, and his own unique “way with words” when sharing his stories.  He could talk your ear off, and enjoyed conversations with almost every person he met.

Ron is survived by his wife Judy of Glenwood, MN, his son Robert of Denver, CO, his sister Marlys (her husband, Dennis Rustman) of Bella Vista, AR, nieces Sheri (her husband, Wee Tee and their son Jaedan) of St Joseph, MO, and Lisa (her husband, Jose Garcia and their children Karyce, Westin, and Braylin) of Franklin, TN, his aunt Gert Steinberg of Hills, MN and numerous cousins and other extended family.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew & Edna, and his son, Michael.
