Robert “Bob” Vander Pol, age 78 of Sibley, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at his home in Sibley.
Visitation will be Monday, December 1, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, IA.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, with Pastor Ben Wiersma officiating.
Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Robert J. Vander Pol was born on January 21, 1947, in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Gerrit and Jessamine (Schuller) Vander Pol. He was raised in Sanborn, Newkirk and Sibley, Iowa. He attended Sibley High School and was a 1966 graduate. After graduating, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served for two years, stationed in Germany.
On July 6, 1971, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Buren in Sheldon, IA. They made their home in Sibley, Iowa. To this union four children were born - Laura, Heidi, Amber and Heath.
Bob "Fuzzy" drove truck for 53 years - 10 years with Mouw Transportation and 43 years with Van Wyk Inc. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild. He also loved driving his 1946 Massey Harris tractor in summertime parades. Bob enjoyed watching drag racing, football and westerns on TV. He also liked early morning and afternoon coffee with the guys.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 54 years; four children, Laura (Aaron) Thomforde, Heidi (Jason) Taylor, Amber (Chris) Munkel, and Heath (Julie) Vander Pol; six grandchildren, Alysen Munkel, Erika (Cody) Hillrichs, Ashlee Munkel, Kyle Taylor, Hannah Vander Pol and Joshua Vander Pol; two step grandchildren, Alex and Gavin Thomforde; one great-grandchild on the way; four siblings, Charlie (Pearl) Vander Pol, Janice (Bill) Wolterstorff, Gary (Lisa) Vander Pol, and Esther Vander Pol; brother-in-law Don Keninger; sisters-in-law, Sharon Baker and Julie Buren; and brother-in-law Ev (Phyllis) Buren; nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, sister Dortena Keninger, sister-in-law Cindy Vander Pol, and brothers-in-law Lloyd Baker and Al Buren.
