Ramona “Mona” Lavonne (Olson) Hasche was born on February 6, 1939, to Oscar and Ida Olson in Eden township, Winnebago County, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Kiester, MN.
She graduated from Kiester High School in 1957 where she participated in band playing the French Horn and sang in the choir, which led to her love of music. Mona attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated in 1961 with a degree in elementary education. She taught school in Baltic, SD; St. James, MN; Rock Rapids, IA; and Doon, IA. She was also a substitute teacher for many years. Teaching was one of the loves of her life and children were very special to her.
Mona married Harold Hasche in 1965 and they were married for 58 years. They started their marriage by living in Rock Rapids, then moved to a farm north of Doon, where they raised their son Todd and daughter Kristen. They moved back to Rock Rapids in 2002 where Mona lived until Alzeheimer’s made it too hard for her to live without assistance in 2020. She then moved to the Good Samaritan Society in George and lived there till her death.
Mona had several interests and hobbies. She had a soft spot for animals and had several cats and dogs in her life, including her beloved cat, Annie. She was very creative and was an accomplished seamstress. She liked to read, play the piano, crochet, knit, and scrapbook. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and engaged in many Norwegian crafts and cooking/baking, including everyone’s favorite - Lutefisk and Lefse (well maybe not everyone’s).
Mona was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for almost 60 years, where she was a member of ILCW. She also taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played the piano and organ, created banners, and served on the church council and various committees.
