On Easter Sunday morning, Eugenia Phyllis (Muilenburg) LaCour, quietly left this life to be forever in the presence of her Lord.

Phyllis, daughter of Peter and Min (Korver) Muilenburg, was born November 18, 1923 in Sioux County, Iowa. She died on April 17, 2022. Phyllis had reached the age of 98 years, 5 months.

On March 13, 1943, she and August “Augie” Peter LaCour were united in marriage. Soon after, she joined Augie for a year in Florida where he was in training with the US Navy Air Force. While Augie was overseas, Phyllis worked as a clerk in the Office of Price Administration (OPA) in Sibley until it closed at war’s end.

In 1962, they moved to Harley, Iowa. Then in 1966, they moved to Clara City, Minnesota. While there, Phyllis was the secretary of the Bethany Reformed Church. Together, she and Augie led a dynamic youth group that allowed the gospel of Jesus Christ to touch the lives of many.

In 1974, she and Augie accepted a position as property managers for the Summit House, a 14-story high rise apartment house in Little Rock, Arkansas. In the fall of 1991, she and Augie returned to Sibley to care for her mother, Min Muilenburg.

Phyllis freely shared her talents in music as a vocalist and her creativity as a seamstress, in floral design, gardening, beautifully decorating their homes. Her sweet spirit was evident in how she truly loved and found joy in her family and friends.

Surviving her are daughters, Barbara LaCour (Darrell Marble) and Marcy Gerdes (Mark); grandchildren Tammie Corbett (Andy), Allison Gerdes (Sumit Sunthankar), Christina Wavrin (Scott), Whitney Gerdes, and Patrick Gerdes (Ritika); sisters-in-law Mary and Kay Muilenburg; and great-grandchildren Shelbie Corbett, William Ashton Corbett, Noah Corbett, Sadie Wavrin, Lilian Wavrin, Logan Wavrin, Claire Wavrin, Smera Gerdes and Oberon Gerdes.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Augie, her parents, Pete and Min, her brothers Virgil and Lloyd, sister-in-law Margo, and granddaughter Kimberly DeSorbo.

We praise God for the blessing of the life of Phyllis LaCour.
