Patrick Howard Waters

     Patrick Waters, age 89 of Rock Rapids, IA passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Welcov Assisted Living in Elk Point, SD.           Graveside memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, October 1, 2018 at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA with Fr. Francis Makwinja officiating.           Patrick Howard Waters was born April 14, 1929 in Massena, IA, the son of James and Zella (Hall) Waters. He grew up on a farm near Atlantic, IA. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1946. In 1951 Patrick served his country in the United States Army and the Army Reserves before being honorably discharged in 1957. On January 23, 1955 he was united in marriage to Beverly Bauerkemper. They lived and worked in Atlantic until their move to Rock Rapids, Iowa, in 1964. Patrick worked as the northwest Iowa residential engineer for the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT). He devoted 44 years to the IDOT before retiring. Retirement was short lived, and Pat went back to work for the next ten years as an engineer for FEMA. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golf, hunting, and fishing. Pat was also a member of the American Legion.           He is survived by his daughter, JoBeth Cook of McCook Lake, SD; three grandchildren, Meghan (Adam) Rozell, and their children, Grady and Brock of Elk Point, SD; Kristen (Brian) Schmitz, and their children, Samuel and Benjamin, of Elk Point, SD; and Ryan Cook of Dakota Dunes, SD; Two sisters, Dorothy Higgins of Omaha, NE and Bernice (Bill) Heider, also of Omaha, NE; One brother, Dr. Paul (Suzanne) Waters of Stockton, CA, and many nieces and nephews.           He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Beverly Waters; son, Tom Waters; and a brother, Russell Waters.
