She graduated from Rapid City High School in May of 1968, and then attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD, graduating in May of 1972, with a BS degree in Business Administration and minor in Math.

Patty married Terry Tausz on August 10, 1974, in Rapid City. Two daughters were born into marriage, Shawn and Michele.

Patty worked in various places after college graduation. She worked at the United National Bank Corporate Office in Sioux Falls from July 1972 to August 1976, and also held a part-time position with Lewis Drugs in the evenings. After moving to Titonka, IA, in Aug. of 1976, she worked at The Winnebago Industries Business Office in Forest City from August 1976 till June 1977. She then worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka from June 1977, until July of 1979. Patty enjoyed doing volunteer work in the community (especially with the Hospice program). She was part of a Rock Rapids volunteer group that worked mostly at wedding receptions, usually at the Rock Rapids Community Building. As a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, she had various volunteer activities, and also did some volunteering at Central Lyon School and at Lyon Manor. Many of these continued even after her retirement.

Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she loved making bars and cookies (especially pumpkin bars and chocolate chip, M&M cookies) during the Holidays and for family get-togethers. Traveling to different destinations was also a favorite of hers. She always put her family and friends first.
