Norman Riemersma, age 69 died Friday, August 21, 2026 at Good Samaritan Society in George after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 24, 2026, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa, with Reverend Ken Eberline, officiating. Livestream to Memorial Service
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday August 23rd at Jurrens Funeral Home in George.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to George Fire Department and/or the George Recreational Trail.
Norman Lee Riemersma was born July 3, 1957, in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Cornie and Marian (Steuven) Riemersma. He grew up in George and graduated from George High School.
On February 9, 1980, Norm was united in marriage to Vicki Groen at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. To this union, two children were born, Melissa and Brady. In the past, Norm worked for the George Lumber Yard, Oehmsen-Mid-West, Riemersma Construction, and Sudenga.
He was a member of Jaycee’s (Betterment Club), Development Corporation, and the City Council. He served in the George Fire Department from 1980-1997. Norm was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee.
He enjoyed motorcycle trips, playing cards, hunting, fishing, golf, softball, and watching the grandchildren’s sporting events.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Vicki; children, Melissa (Derek) Storm and Brady Riemersma, all of George, IA; 5 grandchildren, Cole (Jackie), Mya, Viktoria, Addyson, and Ryker; 3 great grandchildren, Jackson, Maisyn and Vivian; sister, Carol (Byron) Krull of George, IA; mother-in-law, Judy Groen; in-laws, Vonda (Tennus) Heronemus and Jerry (Marcella) Groen; along with extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornie and Marian; and father-in-law, Grumpy Groen.
