Nora Ranschau age 97 of Rock Rapids, IA passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 28th at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Alex Sloter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 28th one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are in the care of the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Peace Lutheran Church of Rock Rapids.
Nora Alvina Ranschau was born on October 12, 1925, on a farm near Steen, MN, the daughter of John and Emma (Lauck) Kitchenmaster. She attended Allison Township Country School, Lyon County, IA.
On December 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to Carl Ranschau at the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA. The couple moved to farm near Doon, IA in 1948 and after retiring from farming, they built a home in Doon. After her husband Carl passed away Nora moved to Rock Rapids, IA. When Nora started having some health issues, she moved to the Rock Rapids Health Centre.
Nora was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid “Daughters of Peace”, made quilts, played the organ, and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Doon.
Her hobbies included knitting, cooking, and bowling for many years.
Nora is survived by her two children, Wayne (Chris) Ranschau of Doon, IA, and Brenda (Gary) Richardson of Alton, IA; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Leah) Herda, Andrew (Jessica) Herda, Eric Ranschau, Cory Ranschau, and Jason Ranschau; and six great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Stegenga of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Thielvoldt of Alvord, IA, Rose Grossenburg of Winner, SD, and Elaine (Jim) Luce of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Kitchenmaster; husband, Carl Ranschau; son-in-law, David Herda; five siblings, Edna Kitchenmaster, Louis Kitchenmaster, Ella Weber, Florence Kitchenmaster, and Norman Kitchmaster; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kitchenmaster; and two brothers-in-law, Pete Stegenga and Harold Weber.
