Nate Austin, age 53, of Rock Rapids, IA died on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 16th at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Father Sunny Dominic as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Nathan “Nate” Andrew Austin was born March 8, 1973, in Rock Rapids, IA, the son of Mike and Jackie (Streetman) Austin. He was raised in Rock Rapids and graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1992. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1998.

Nate was united in marriage to Carmen Huseman on January 6, 1996. Following graduation, they moved to Denver, CO, where they lived for six years. Nate taught and coached during his time in Colorado. They moved back to Rock Rapids in 2004. Nate worked for the Sioux Falls School District as a Job Developer for the last 21 years.

Nate loved spending time with family and friends and rarely met a stranger. Whether it was striking up a conversation at a ball game or on the golf course, he had a gift for making people feel welcome. More than anything, he loved his family and was incredibly proud of his children. He especially enjoyed watching them play sports and could always be found cheering them on from the bleachers. Nothing brought him more joy than supporting his children and sharing in their accomplishments. Nate loved golfing with friends, listening to old country music, playing board games around the family table, coaching youth basketball, baseball, and softball, and watching just about any sporting event. His friendly personality, quick smile, and genuine interest in others led to countless friendships throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, and the way he made everyone around him feel like a friend.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carmen Austin; three children, Andrew, Alexis and Aric Austin; his parents, Mike and Jackie Austin of Rock Rapids, IA; six siblings, Mike (Carrie) Austin of Dell Rapids, SD, Matt Austin of Albuquerque, NM, Aaron (Jenna) Austin of Spring, TX, Spencer Austin of Rock Rapids, IA, Meredith (Joe) Vander Zee of Rock Rapids, IA and A.J. (Jill) Austin of Cedar Falls, IA; along with numerous in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Nathan Andrew Austin Jr.
