Myrna Heronemus, age 93 of Ashton, Iowa passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society of George on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
There will be a private service on Saturday, June 28, 2025 with Pastor Tim Nappe, officiating. Burial will take place at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Avera Hospice.
Myrna Joan Heronemus was born October 20, 1931, the daughter of Reinhard and Louisa (Vaupel) Feldman. She grew up on a farm near Ashton with her six siblings and attended country school. She graduated from George High School in 1950.
On February 24, 1951, Myrna was united in marriage to Elmer Heronemus at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, Iowa. To this union, six children were born. They moved to a farm near Sibley. In 1963, they moved into Sibley for about ten years before spending the rest of their marriage on a farm near Ashton. Myrna worked as a bookkeeper for Mauch Oil for over 30 years. She retired after her husband had some heart issues, so she could help care for him. Elmer passed away in 2005.
Myrna moved to Heartwood Heights in Sibley in 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed the community there. She then moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Goerge, Iowa in August of 2022.
Myrna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, bird watching, being outdoors, and cooking great meals, always asking for food requests. She loved having her family around. Her family remembers her as a kind and sweet lady. She was the picture-perfect grandma.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rheinola (Eric) Stolpe of Sioux City, IA, Terry (Cheryl) Heronemus of Newkirk, IA, Mary Strouth of Ashton, Tennus (Vonda) Heronemus of Orange City, IA, Michael (Nancy) Heronemus of Sheldon, IA, and Robert (Sandy) Heronemus of Spencer, IA; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Iva Jean Ott of Davenport, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reinhard and Louisa; husband, Elmer; siblings, Marvin (Agnes) Feldman, Pearl (Bob) Wolf, Lorraine (Rowdy) Henning, Velma (Ken) Winters, Lois (Birdy) Krull; son-in-law, Tony Strouth; and brother-in-law, Jerry Ott.
