Matthew "Weasel" Doherty age 67 of Larchwood, Iowa died unexpectedly Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his home.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 30, 2022 at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood with Father Sunny Dominic, celebrating. Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood.
Matthew "Weasel" Charles Doherty was born March 19, 1955 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Robert and Alice (Anderson) Doherty. He was raised in Inwood and attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from West Lyon High School in 1973.
On October 23, 1983, he was united in marriage to Shelly Sehr in Larchwood, IA and then were later divorced. Together they had two children; Breanna and Nicholas.
Matthew worked construction most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, road tripping, and hanging out with his friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Amy Albers of Sioux Falls, SD, Breanna (Ashley) Enstad of Sioux Falls, SD, and Nick (Brittany) Doherty of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Trevor, Serenity, Isabel, Madison, and Aria; mother, Alice Doherty of Larchwood, IA; siblings, Bill (Donna) Doherty of Inwood, IA, Cindy Grotjohn of Inwood, IA, Frank (Chris) Doherty of Brandon, SD, Patrice (Ben) Metzger of Hot Springs, SD, Marty (Linda) Doherty of Sioux Falls, SD, Theresa (Randy) Sehr of Sioux Falls, SD, Ann (Kevin) Spaans of Sioux Falls, SD, John (Marla) Doherty of Larchwood, IA, Mary (David) Jackson of Larchwood, IA; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Doherty; siblings, Patrick Doherty, Maureen Reckert, and Robert Doherty Jr.; nephew, Mike Reckert; brothers-in-law, Bill Reckert and Jim Grotjohn.
