Matilda Fisher

December 30, 1926 — October 13, 2021

Ashton, IA

     Matilda Fisher age 94 formerly of Ashton, Iowa died Wednesday, October 13, 2021  at Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Iowa.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Ashton, Iowa with Rev. Dale Lint, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery at Ashton.

     Visitation will be Monday, October 18th from 3:00 to 7:30 PM with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton.

     Matilda Georgina Fisher was born December 30, 1926 at Elgin Township, Iowa the daughter of George and Christina (Johnson) Arends.  She grew up in Little Rock, Iowa and graduated from the Little Rock High School in 1944.

     On September 22, 1950, Matilda was united in marriage to Harold Fisher in Ashton, Iowa.  Together they lived on the family farm near Ashton before moving to Austin, Minnesota.  They moved back to Little Rock, Iowa for a short time before moving to Ashton.  Together they raised five children.  Harold passed away in 1983.

     Matilda truly enjoyed working, she worked at the restaurant and bar in Little Rock as a teenager and later worked at the pack in Hartley, Iowa.  She worked in a retail clothing store in Sheldon before working at Lady B’s in Sheldon until she turned 82.  She was a member of the Ashton Presbyterian Church and was involved with the Ladies Circle.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary.  Matilda enjoyed making ceramic dolls, crafting, and cooking Sunday dinners for her family.  Her family always looked forward to her angel food cake with the fluffy frosting.  Most of all, Matilda enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.

     Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Becky Fisher of rural Renner, SD, Kimberley (Brian) Rons of Primghar, IA, son-in-law, Jim Monier of Cloverdale, IA, daughter-in-law, Amy Fisher of Hartley, IA; nine grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Tony Arends of Florida; special niece who was like a sister, Georgianne Becker; dear friend, Thea Huygens; along with extended relatives and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents; parents-in-law; children, Tom, Debbie and Tim; brothers and sisters, Jeanette, Alice, Henry and Louise.
