Marjorie Wells, age 89 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, March 9, 2026, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 14th at The Ransom Church in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Travis Remme officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
Marj was born on December 12, 1936, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Peter and Nellie Berg. She graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1955. In 1957, she married James “Jim” Wells, the love of her life.
The couple moved to Des Moines while Jim attended Drake University. During that time, Marj worked at Bankers Life and enjoyed the many friendships and experiences she found in the city. Following Jim’s graduation, they returned to Rock Rapids, where Marj worked at Lyon County State Bank until the early 1970s.
Marj was a member of P.E.O. and the American Legion Auxiliary. They were members of the Congregational (UCC) Church where Marj was on the Mayflower Guild. She and Jim enjoyed country dancing, gardening, and caring for their yard. She especially enjoyed her and Jim's involvement in Grand Falls Casino. She loved entertaining and cherished the friendships she built over the years. Above all, she loved her husband Jim dearly and valued the life they shared together.
Marj is survived by her children, Jayne (Cameron) Greenfield of Rock Rapids, and Steve (Jackie) Wells of Rock Rapids; her grandchildren, Amanda (Joe) Schmunk, Ian Wells, and Sydney Wells; and her great-grandson, James "JJ" Schmunk. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Hoogeveen and Nancy Onerheim, and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Sarff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Nellie Berg; her husband, James Wells; and her brother, Harold Berg.
Marj will be remembered for her love of family, the friendships she treasured, and the life she built in the community she called home.
