ASHTON, IA
Margaret Lamfers age 78 of Ashton, IA died Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with the Father Siby Punnoose Celebrating the Mass.
Visitation will be from 9-11 AM also at the church on Wednesday.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Ashton, IA.
Margaret Ann was born December 17, 1945, in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of Evelyn and Joseph Schierholt. She attended Sibley High School and after high school, attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Sioux City. She had a lifelong career as a registered nurse and was employed at Country View Manor in Sibley for over 30 years where she ended her career as assistant director of nursing. She retired from nursing at Sanford Sheldon Care Center in 2012. In 2005 she was honored by the State of Iowa as one of The 100 Great Iowa Nurses.
On July 24, 1967, she was united in marriage to Monte Ray Lamfers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, Minn. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton. Together their family shared a love of NASCAR. She enjoyed cross-stitching and sewing projects for her family. Most of all she loved spending time with family and grandchildren. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with the Foster Grandparent program at Sheldon Schools.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Lyle) Huff of Ashton, a daughter-in-law Sue Lamfers of Princeton, IA, son Keith (Joni Kellen) Lamfers of Ames and daughter Kim (Kevin) Poeckes of Sheldon; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Jean Kennedy of Spirit Lake, Skip Hunt of Peterson and Barb (Fred) Bern of Jackson, MN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Kevin; son-in-law, Chris Presthus; her parents; father- and mother-in-law, Ben and Tena Lamfers; brothers, Don Schierholt, Roman Schierholt; brothers-in-law, Fred Hunt, Frank Kennedy; niece, Beth Mulder; and nephew, James Hunt.
Casket bearers will be Jeremiah Huff, Benjamin Huff, Andrew Lamfers, Noah Lamfers, Jozef Lamfers, Rob Bern and honorary casket bearer, Alex Presthus.
