Mae R. Smid, age 95 of Rock Rapids passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Avera Merril Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at The Rock Community Church in Rock Rapids, IA with the Rev. Travis Remme officiating.

A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the church on Tuesday.

Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA is in charge of the arrangements.

Mae Rose Smid was born September 26, 1930 in Lyon County, Iowa to parents Rena (Eeten)and Eilert Wibben. She grew up on the family farm east of Rock Rapids, attended country school, and graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1949. She then worked for several area families doing housekeeping and child care. On October 5, 1954, Mae married Walter Smid at the State Line Church near Ellsworth, MN.

Mae and Walter made their home on a farm outside of Rock Rapids. Mae stayed home to raise their five children, and when they were grown, she became a CNA and proudly worked 19 years at Lyon Manor and Rock Rapids Health Center.

Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and doing puzzles. Her family and friends enjoyed many hand-made gifts, including holiday carmel rolls. Mae was active in the Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher, Memorial committee member, and Quilters. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mae is survived by her children: Debra (James) Schomburg; Darvin (Laurie) Smid; Diane Smid-Breyfogle; Donna (Dale) Spartz; and Davis Smid. Mae is also survived by her grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister-in-law Jennie Wibben; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her husband Walter preceded her in death, along with her parents, three brothers, one sister, and Walters parents, his brothers, and their wives.
