Mabel Voss

July 23, 1925 — November 2, 2022

Little Rock, IA

     Mabel Voss age 97, formerly of Little Rock, Iowa died Tuesday, November 2, 2022, at UnityPoint Hospice – Paula J. Baber Cottage in Fort Dodge, IA.

     There will be just a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7th at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. 

     Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, IA, with Reverend Barry Wynveen officiating committal service.

     Mabel was born at the family farm northeast of George, Iowa, the daughter of Klaas and Lena (Hassebroek) Klingenberg Sr.. She was raised and educated near George attending country school and George High School.

     Mabel was united in marriage to Herman Voss Jr. on March 20, 1943. Following their marriage Herman enlisted in the U.S. Army Corp. He returned to Mabel on December 16, 1945. Together they farmed and were blessed with two daughters, Marilynn and Bonnie.

     Mabel was a charter member of the Elgin Homemakers Club. She enjoyed the service and members friendship for many years. Roses were her favorite flower and enjoyed tending her flower garden. Mabel was a very good cook and baker. The family always looked forward to her apple pie in the fall using apples from the tree on the farm. She went all out baking and candy making during the holiday season. When living near Little Rock they were member of Salem Reformed Church and was active with the women’s serving group. The couple retired from farming in 1983 and moved to Sheldon, IA. In retirement Mabel and Herman enjoyed traveling and spent several winters in Texas.

     On August 1, 2022, Mabel’s husband of 79 years, Herman died. Mabel continued living in Sheldon until she recently moved to UnityPoint Hospice Paula J. Baber Cottage in Fort Dodge, IA. She remained there until this past Wednesday, November 2, 2022, where she died at the age of 97.

     She will be remembered by her daughter, Bonnie (Gene) Schubert of Lee’s Summit, MO; five grandchildren, Steven (Theresa) Lursen, Joan (Jason) Wiese, Tara (Chris) Haas, Jordin Lursen, and Heidi Schubert; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Klingenberg; and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Klaas and Lena Klingenberg; husband, Herman Voss; a daughter, Marilynn Gayle Lursen; son-in-law, Eldon Lursen; three brothers, Klass, Willys, and Roy; and two sisters, Martha Harms and Nancy Timmer.
