Lynn John Van Meeteren was born January 9, 1953, in Sheldon, Iowa the son of Arthur and Adaline (Perrott) Van Meeteren. He grew up on a farm east of Sheldon and attended Sheldon High School, graduating in 1971. He then attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion until returning to Sheldon as he realized his true desire for his life's work was to begin farming.

On May 24, 1974, Lynn was united in marriage to Elvina Lenderts at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church in rural George, Iowa. They made their home on an acreage near Sheldon for nine years, where they were blessed with two children, Heath and Melissa. During these younger years, Lynn worked at the Ritter Elevator and many years at Smit & Son Pack in Boyden, in addition to starting to farm. In the summer of 1983, they moved to the family farm southeast of George where he actively pursued his farming career, but also helped out at the George Elevator part-time. Farming was Lynn's ultimate passion, and he worked hard raising livestock, corn and soybeans. He also spent many hours trucking for L&H, the business he started with his son. He always enjoyed having an extra rider as his grandchildren liked riding along with Grandpa. Another move to a nearby acreage was made in 2019, anticipating future retirement there.

Lynn was a member of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, deacon, and trustee. He also served on the Midwest Elevator Coop Board for many years. He enjoyed being on a bowling league and also a golf league for years. Playing the card game "500" during the winter months brought an array of new friends, great memories and many laughs. Farming was more than a career for Lynn, it was his passion, which he truly enjoyed. But above all this, he loved and treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, especially attending and watching their many activities. His family remembers him as being generous, hardworking, a leader, loving and kind; he will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elvina of 51 years; children, Heath (Amanda) Van Meeteren of George, IA and Melissa (Randy) Vaupel of Sibley, IA; seven grandchildren, Ashlyn Van Meeteren, Kalie Van Meeteren, Makenzy Vaupel, Jace Van Meeteren, Sierra Vaupel, Maverick Van Meeteren, and Wyatt Vaupel; siblings, Tom (Sue) Van Meeteren of Valley, NE, Bob (Cheryl) Van Meeteren of Sheldon, IA, Vonda Matchie of Roland, IA, Renee Sims of El Paso, TX, sister-in-law, Harriet Lenderts of Sibley, IA; along with many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Adaline; brothers-in-law, Larry Matchie, Jim Sims, Gerald Lenderts; nephew, Steve Lenderts; and parents-in-law, Orval and Eunice Lenderts.

Blessed be his memory.
