Luella Joyce Pedley

Luella “Grandma Lue” Pedley, age 91 of Ocheyedan, Iowa, died Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Osceola Regional Hospital in Sibley, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA, with Pastor Richard Milbrandt officiating. Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery at Ocheyedan, IA.

Visitation with the family present will be on Monday, May 25th, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ocheyedan.

In place of flowers, the Pedley family is asking for memorials that will be directed to Luella’s favorite charities.

Luella Joyce Pedley was born on January 15, 1935, in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Claus) Rueter. She grew up on farms near Ocheyedan and attended country school and Zion School. She later attended and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1953.

On February 19, 1954, Luella was united in marriage to Robert Pedley at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa. The couple lived on two farms near Ocheyedan. In 1967, they moved to Luella’s family farm and lived there until 1999, when they moved to Ocheyedan. After sixty-seven years of marriage, Robert passed away on August 31, 2021.

Luella was a homemaker and a farm wife extraordinaire. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and was very active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Ocheyedan.

She was known as “Grandma Lue” by her great-grandchildren. She loved baking fresh bread and cinnamon rolls, coffee time, cooking, gardening, and potting plants. She especially enjoyed vacations visiting family in Wyoming and other family gatherings.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Cynthia (Greg) Range of Omaha, NE, Arlyn (Jan) Pedley of Ocheyedan, IA, Lylah Kreis (companion, George Ruegg) of Roanoke, TX, and Judy (Harlan) Bonnstetter of Bondurant, IA; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Gehl of Fulda, MN; sister-in-law, Delores Rosenbrook of Lakeville, MN; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pedley; parents, Walter and Rose Rueter; parents-in-law, Don and Clara Paisley; brother, Meryl Rueter; three brothers-in-law, Merle Pedley; Dwaine Rosenbrook, and Elden Gehl; sister-in-law, Sally Pedley; and grandson, Jason Barrie.
