Lowell Van Briesen, age 83 of Ashton, IA died Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 7th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Fr. Siby Punnoose as celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Ashton.
Visitation will be Friday, December 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with family present from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton. A rosary will be at 4:00 p.m. with vigil service to follow.
The Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton is in charge of arrangements.
Lowell Ray Van Briesen was born on September 10, 1936 in George, IA. He grew up in the George area. On March 30, 1955, he was united in marriage to Darlene Schaa. The couple made their home in George, where they lived, and Lowell worked various places for ten years. They then moved to Ashton where, he worked at AMPI, Heimans Fire Equipment and later owned and operated L & D Bait Shop with his wife Darlene. Lowell was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a hunter, trapper and an avid fisherman. He liked to take vacations on his motorcycle and would go snowmobiling in the Black Hills in the winter.
Lowell is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Darlene Van Briesen of Sibley, IA; three children, Laura (Gene) Ney, Cheryl (Russ) Doughty and Dave Van Briesen all of Ashton, IA; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Randy Van Briesen of Montezuma, IA; brother-in-law, Virgil Grave of Lake Park, IA; sister-in-law, Patsy Van Briesen of George, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha Van Briesen; son, Ronnie in infancy; two brothers, Dwayne and Denny Van Briesen; two sisters, Beverly Kolthoff and Norma Grave; brother-in-law, Bob Kolthoff; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Van Briesen.
