Lois Ann Nagel was born on January 13, 1936, in George, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Elizabeth (Blau) Kluver. She graduated from George Community School in 1954 and continued her education at Mankato Commercial College. On June 6, 1958, she was united in marriage to George W. Nagel at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. The couple farmed west of George and started their family—Rodney was born in 1960 and Roxanne in 1965. Lois and her family lived on the farm until George's untimely passing on June 3, 1969. She then moved into town with her children and built a new chapter of life anchored by faith, love, and resilience. She worked for the George State Bank and later served with the U.S. Postal Service in George for 29 years, retiring with many cherished friendships. A lifelong member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Lois served faithfully as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent. She loved singing in the choir, playing in the bell choir, and attending Adult Sunday School. Lois was also active in United Presbyterian Women (UPW), the Red Hat Society, and Kiwanis. Lois was a beloved and devoted parent, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and loyal friend. She found joy in life's simple blessings—family gatherings, laughter around the table, cheering at her family's sporting events, and sharing her love through kindness and compassion. Though her life held difficult seasons, Lois carried an unshakable peace that came from knowing who held tomorrow. Family was Lois's greatest joy and proudest calling. She built a home where love was unconditional, laughter came easily, and meals were shared as moments of connection and gratitude. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew they were deeply loved—not just because of the words Lois spoke, but because of the time, patience, and care she gave so freely.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory two children: Rodney (Jacqueline) Nagel of Fayetteville, AR, and Roxanne (David) Ackerman of Rock Rapids, IA; six grandchildren: Elizabeth Nagel of Washington, D.C.; Anna (Travis) McLaren of Fayetteville, AR; Abbie (Jordan) Gacke of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Ross (Kate) Ackerman of Spirit Lake, IA; Kelsey (Austin) Wells of Omaha, NE; and Lexi (Wyatt) Mounts of Sioux City, IA; and eight great-grandchildren: Kane Gacke, Hayes Gacke, George McLaren, Campbell Wells, Tate Gacke, Scout Mounts, Lennox Mounts, and Jay Ackerman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Hans and Lizzy; granddaughter, Lindsey Nagel; sister, Viola Faber; brothers, John and Bert Kluver; sister-in-law, Frances Kluver; brother-in-law, Arie Faber; and dear friend, Wanda Koger.
Lois's legacy of faith, family, and laughter lives on in all who knew her. Her life was a reflection of steadfast faith and quiet strength — a reminder that love, grace, and gratitude are the truest measures of a life well-lived.
