Joseph “Joe” Malsam, age 87, of Sibley, IA, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at his home in Sibley, IA.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, with Father Siby Punnoose officiating.

A public visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, November 22nd.

Joseph Malsam was born on January 26, 1938, in Hillsview, SD, the son of Frank and Johanna (Getz) Malsam. He and his family lived in Hillsview, where he attended school through the 8th grade. They then moved to Hosmer, SD.

On September 15, 1958, Joe was united in marriage to Theresa Gisi in Ipswich, SD. To this union eight children were born, Donna, Sharon, Barbara, Kathy, Debra, Brenda, Chad, and Bill. The couple lived several places throughout their married life, such as Aberdeen, SD, Pipestone, MN, Worthington, MN, Hosmer, SD, Sibley, IA, Worthington, MN, Little Rock, IA, and then back to Sibley, IA.

Joe farmed in Hosmer, SD for six years, then worked for Gordy’s Super Value as a manager in the Meat Department in Worthington, MN, and then as a meat cutter in Ellsworth, MN.

He was a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley. He enjoyed his time farming, working as a meat cutter, fishing, traveling with his family and playing cards. Joe especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of sixty-seven years, Theresa Malsam of Sibley, IA; six children, Donna Meyer (Friend, Russell Allen) of Little Rock, IA, Barbara Malsam of Sibley, IA, Debra (Jeffrey) Meyer of Gaylord, MN, Brenda (Paul) Omodt of Buford, GA, Chad (Tina) Malsam of Primghar, IA, and Bill Malsam (Dianne Wallrich) of Baltic, SD; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; two sisters, Marcy Scheer, and Teresa Joses; brother, Benjamin Malsam; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Johanna Malsam; two daughters, Sharon Peterson, and Kathy Dardis; two granddaughters, Rachel Bonitz and Christina Schneider; two brothers, Steve and David Malsam; and two sisters, Aggie Heilman and Frances Gob.
