Jeanetta Kix, the daughter of Aalt and Jennie (Klein) Van Dyke, was born north of Lester, Iowa on November 18, 1928, her father’s 43rd birthday. At the age of 9 years old, the family moved to a farm north of Rock Rapids where she grew up and attended country school through the eighth grade. In her late teens, Jeanetta’s parents retired from farming, and she moved with them to Rock Rapids where she worked at the JC Penney store.

Jeanetta married Frederick Kix on May 11, 1949. To this union were born two daughters, Karen and Lorae. They made their home in George, Iowa until 1962 when they moved to a farm northwest of Sibley where she worked alongside her husband tending to the farm. Jeanetta proudly earned her GED in 1972. In 1983 Frederick and Jeanetta moved to a home in Sibley where she was employed cleaning the Sibley post office and later worked at NW Publishing while cleaning homes and offices on the side. She continued living in their Sibley home until August of 2023 when her health required long term care.

Jeanetta was a member of the Central Baptist Church in George. Her faith was the center of her life. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle work, quilting, baking and loved reminding us that Mickey Mouse was introduced the same day she was born.

Jeanetta is survived by her daughter, Lorae (Ray) of West Des Moines, Iowa and three grandsons, Michael Schlitter, Justin Johnson (Paola Vilaxa) of Lakewood, Colorado, and Aaron (Kate) Johnson of Arvada, Colorado. She is also survived by three great-grand daughters, Amelia, Violet and Vivian who brought her great joy in recent years. Jeanetta is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) Kix of Rock Rapids and many nieces and nephews she deeply cared for and spoke of often.

Jeanetta was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, her daughter, Karen, her parents, Aalt and Jennie Van Dyke, siblings Gerrit, Gertie, Herman, John William (Bill), and her infant sister, Jeanette. Also preceding her in death were her brothers and sisters-in-law and one niece.
