Janis Arlene Jerde

Janis Arlene Jerde of Larchwood, Iowa passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 77, surrounded by her family.

Jan was born in Sibley, Iowa on October 8, 1947, the daughter of the late Helmer and Agnes Kruse. Born and raised on "the farm", Jan and her family moved to George, IA when she was 9, where she immediately came to appreciate indoor plumbing. After graduating from George High School, Jan's dream was to become a storm chaser. However, she ended up attending Stewart's School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls, SD, which is something she always regretted. She was a beautician in Rock Rapids, IA for 10 years before running off to CA with the love of her life. Once in San Jose, CA, Jan began raising her family and then got into banking. She continued her career in banking up until her retirement from US Bank in Patterson, CA. Upon her retirement, Jan and Chuck moved back to the Midwest.

Up until her illness (when she wasn't busy spoiling her grandkids), Jan loved to golf, travel (especially in the truck with Chuck), and go to The Sports Center and drink beer with her friends.

Jan is survived by her loving husband Chuck, of 48 years; daughter Jessica Welch and her husband Jeremy of Willmar, MN; son Scott and his fiancé Christine of Harrisburg, SD; her grandchildren Nathan, Ethan, and Emersyn. Sister Sharon Kruse of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and brother Larry Kruse of Inwood, IA.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Shawntel Lee Rydell.

Jurrens Funeral Home is in charge of cremation, with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
