Janice Kay Nuffer was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on July 20, 1947, to Cletus and Patricia (Qualley) Nuffer. She grew up on a farm north of Hills. The oldest of 6 children, she graduated from Hills High School in 1965. After graduating, Janice attended Worthington Community College. From there, she transferred to Mankato State University, where she graduated with a major in Elementary Education/Special Education.
Her 1st teaching position was in Philip, SD. From there, she taught at a country school in Philip, SD. Eventually, she resumed her education at Mankato State University, where she graduated with a 6-year Specialist Degree. She then served as Elementary Principal at Morgan, MN. Her next position was as Superintendent/Principal at the Magnolia School, Magnolia, MN. After leaving that position, she worked at Morgan Stanley-Dean Witter, Sioux Falls, SD. After retiring from that position, due to increasing health problems related to her 40-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis, she became a full-time aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Janice valued education and was an avid reader. She is fondly remembered as an aunt who had a knack for picking out good books for kids to read. In her later years, she was a master of the computer and her iPhone. She took a special shine to grand nieces, Afton and Aubrey. Part of her daily routine was picking them up from school along with friend, Kelsey Baker. She brought them to her house where she fed and tutored them, until their parents could pick them up.
Janice is survived by her 5 siblings: Mary (Rick) Martens, Madison, SD; George (JoAnn) Nuffer, Johnstown, CO; Allen (Sue) Nuffer, Hills, MN; Cleo (Mark) Granneman, Northfield, MN; and Beth (Morris) Fick, Luverne, MN. She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, 38 great nieces and nephew, with another great nephew scheduled to join the family in February.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Cletus and Pat Nuffer, and a niece, Jamie Nuffer.
