Glenda Mae Van't Hul

Glenda Van’t Hul, age 73, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, August 20, 2026, at her home.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 23rd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, with family present at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with Pastor Al Richardson and Pastor Steve Meester, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Glenda Mae Van’t Hul was born on February 4, 1953, in Fort Riley, Kansas, the daughter of Clares and Dena (Koelewyn) Christians. She grew up on a farm near Edgerton, Minnesota, and attended Christian grade school and high school there. Following her graduation, she received her nursing degree from Worthington State Junior College in Worthington, Minnesota.

On September 8, 1972, Glenda was united in marriage to Gary Van’t Hul at the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton, Minnesota. They farmed near Edgerton until March 1977, when they moved to a farm near Rock Rapids. To this union, three children were born: Valeria, Shawna, and Chad.

Glenda worked at several places throughout 49 years of her nursing career, including Adrian Nursing Home in Adrian, Minnesota; Mid-Sioux Opportunity of Lyon County; Rock Rapids Health Center; Valley Manor in Rock Valley, Iowa; and Hegg Medical Clinic in Rock Valley, Iowa. Forty of those years she worked in Rock Valley, where she was well known for her kindness and compassion amongst her co-workers and patients.

She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. She enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, and spending time farming with her husband. Glenda especially treasured time spent with her family, vacationing at Village West, family trips to the zoo, and attending her grandchildren’s events. Her grandchildren especially cherished time spent together and the sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa’s farm.

Glenda was a kindhearted, humble, and sweet lady with a gentle soul. She was hardworking and compassionate, always offering a listening ear to anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 53 years, Gary Van’t Hul of Rock Rapids, Iowa; three children, Valeria Van’t Hul of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Shawna (Brad) Lupkes of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Will, Clara, Isaac, and Pete; and Chad (Kim) Van’t Hul of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Kelsey, Jake, and Brady; three siblings, Rod (Deb) Christians of Edgerton, Minnesota; Ron (Ava) Christians of Kenneth, Minnesota; and Gloria (Mark) Roemeling of Edgerton, Minnesota; three brothers-in-law, Larry Van’t Hul of Pipestone, Minnesota, Terry (Mickie) Van’t Hul of Phoenix, Arizona, and Merlyn (Edna) Buys of Luverne, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clares and Dena Christians; father- and mother-in-law, Albert and Gertrude Van’t Hul; sister-in-law, Mary Buys; brother-in-law, Jerry Van’t Hul; and granddaughter, Lydia Lupkes.
