Sibley

Glen Garnett, age 69 of Sibley, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley, Iowa.

Glen was born in Jefferson, Iowa, where he also graduated from high school. He was a proud graduate of Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business. Glen and his family lived in Scranton, Iowa, where he worked at the Farmers Elevator Cooperative for many years. His education, career, and strong work ethic reflected his lifelong commitment to family, responsibility, and the agricultural way of life. Glen and Jane moved to Sibley, Iowa, where he worked at the Hood Packaging Plant for 24 years until he retired in 2024.

Glen enjoyed sports, hunting, camping, and spending time outdoors. He especially loved riding his Goldwing motorcycle on the open road. One of his greatest joys was time spent with his grandchildren, and he rarely missed a game for his grandson Gannon, who lived nearby and played baseball, football, and basketball. Glen was a steady and loving presence, always showing up to support those he loved.

Some of Glen’s most cherished memories were made while traveling and camping with family and friends. In 2025, Glen and his wife Jane traveled to Colorado, camping with their three children and their families, creating a memory the family will forever hold close as they enjoyed being together in the middle of the woods, they all loved. In the summer of 2024, Glen fulfilled a lifelong dream when he traveled to Alaska with Jane, his brother David, and his wife Rande, where they experienced breathtaking scenery and incredible wildlife. In 2023, Glen and Jane traveled with their closest friends to Montana and Wyoming, visiting Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, another trip filled with friendship, adventure, and lasting memories. A favorite family highlight from earlier years was attending a Denver Broncos game in 2018, which remains one of their most treasured experiences together.

Glen will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and the friendships he cherished. Many people remember him as the “gentle giant,” known for his kind heart, quiet strength, and steady presence. The many memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Deloris Garnett; his parents-in-law, Roy and Lucille Mosher; and his sister-in-law, Elaine Garnett.

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Jane Garnett; three children, Candace (Matt) Powell of Craig, Colorado, Cliff Garnett of Worthington, Minnesota, and Amanda (Martin) Alvarez of Hayden, Colorado; grandchildren, Taylor Powell, Blake Powell, Gannon Garnett, Landon Alvarez, and Cataleya Alvarez; siblings, Steve (Janet) Garnett, Roger (Lisa) Garnett, Joyce (Charlie) Poggensee, Janet (Joe) Cummings, and David (Rande) Garnett; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
