Gladys De Kam was born on May 30, 1948 to Marvin and Carolyn (Hulstein) De Kam. I was born in the home of my parents near Alvord, Iowa. I was the last baby that Dr. Lester Hegg delivered "in the home" (yes, this is the Doctor of Hegg Memorial). Mother just purchased her new electric stove; she often reminded me that this made the price of delivering a baby to be raised to $48.00. On March 30,1971 I married Robert Tiedeman. We were blessed with three wonderful children, which multiplied with marriages. I have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Most of our married life we lived in Sibley. I enjoyed being a member of First Reformed Church where I was involved and where I made many friends. Living a life with the Lord at my side was wonderful, He is my best friend. I enjoyed serving the Lord whenever possible.

I enjoyed the art of being a seamstress and quilter. From this pleasure, I ran a business from my home for many years and enjoyed every minute. I also was able to pass this pleasure to two of my grandchildren, Paige and Alex. We did a lot of sewing and quilting, and made special bonds. I also did two projects with Chantel in January of 2021. I enjoyed fishing. What a pleasure to relax and enjoy God's creation and observe the beauty of it when I waited patiently for the fish to bite. To my children, you are the best. As the years passed and it was harder for me to motivate and get things done, but you were always there. Thank you to my family whom I love and enjoyed spending time with. You are the best, I give thanks to God daily for you and everyone else who has helped me when I was unable to perform certain tasks.

I am survived by my children, Mike, Teresa (Chris), Kim (John); and by Robert. My grandchildren: Cody (Kristen), Paige (Kyle), Alex, Ashley, Ross, Matthew and Chantel, great grandchildren, Braelyn, Adelyn and Caelyn. Five sisters and spouses, Rose and Jim, Phyl and Ron, Mary and Marv, Lena and Veryl, Diane and Jason...two brothers and spouses, John and Carlene, Conrad and Virginia. And my adopted family, Wes, Jake and Maggie Schutte families who were very special to me.

Preceding my death were parents, Marvin and Carolyn De Kam, Vernon and Winefred Tiedeman, brothers -in- law, Denny Tiedeman, Bruce Wall, Harlan Dorhout and Don Letcher, Nieces, Christy Vollink, Lisa Dorhout, and Danita Vollink, Nephew, Joel De Kam and one Grandniece, Baby Khacadaurian.

To everyone who has touched my life, Thank You!

Written by Gladys in her own hand.
