Geneva Reed, age 98 of Sibley, IA, died Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery rural George, IA.
Geneva Pearl (Jurrens) Reed was born at Hull, IA, on July 2, 1928, to Clarence and Esther (Veenker) Jurrens. Her parents resided on a farm near Steen, MN. A few months later they moved to the Veenker family farm 6 ¾ miles east of George. She attended country school from kindergarten to 8th grade. She attended George High School, graduating in 1945 at the age of 16. At the age of 15 she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. After High School, she attended a summer session at Westmar College in LeMars, IA. She taught country school for 9 years and attended summer school sessions each summer. She was a member of a teaching fraternity called Delta Kappa Gamma. She also taught Kindergarten in Melvin for two years and 14 years in Sibley. She graduated with a BA degree in Elementary Education in 1972. She loved children and teaching which she did for 25 years. She volunteered at the 2nd Beginnings and the Lord’s Pantry. She always said, “You must make sunshine with your smiles.” She enjoyed music and loved singing and playing piano. After teaching, she worked in the City of Sibley Power Plant for 13 years, the U.S. Census for 3 years and 5 years at Walmart in Spirit Lake. She was united in marriage to Chester J. Reed in 1954 and had one son, Julius. Chester passed away in September 2001 after 47 years together. She was a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and attended Zoar Ladies Aid. She loved her church family. She enjoyed people and doing things for others. She liked to cook and bake and share it with others. She was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
She is survived by her one son, Julius (Lorrie) Reed of Ocheyedan, IA; grandchildren, Mandy (Lance) Groen, Brent Reed (Meghan) and Jason DeWall; seven great grandchildren; two sisters Eu Claire (Dennis) Hilbrands and Hermina Woodall.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Esther; stepfather, Herman Bruhn; her husband Chester; brothers, C.J. Jurrens; Jonathan Bruhn, sister, Esther Bruhn and grandson, Ryan Tanner Reed.
