Ethel Frances (Trei) Augsburger was born on April 20, 1928 in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Buss) Hassebroek.  She grew up on a farm near Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School.  After attending summer school in Cedar Falls, she earned a certificate which allowed her to teach in a rural country school.

On April 25, 1945 she was united in marriage to Harvey Trei.  The couple lived and farmed near Little Rock, Iowa where they raised a family of four daughters.

Ethel returned to college to get her teaching degree and taught for the next 20 years at the George Elementary School.

Quilting became a lifelong hobby and she presented a devotional program “Quilt Blocks and the Bible” many times.  Thru the years each family member was presented a quilt made especially for them.

On March 20, 1998 she married Rev. Victor Augsburger.  They enjoyed living in Arizona and Iowa, creating valuable memories during their 15 year marriage.  Victor passed away in 2012.

Ethel was a lifelong member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church of George, Iowa.  As a teenager she began serving her church as pianist and organist, and later as a church officer, along with many other capacities.  She enjoyed providing and arranging fresh floral bouquets for Sunday worship and special events of the church.

In April of 2019 she entered Country View Manor where she passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at the age of 91.
