Eleanor Louise DeBoer was born August 22, 1934 on a farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa, the firstborn child of Theodore and Louise (Cassens) Reemtsma. She grew up near Rock Rapids and attended Midland Township Country School before graduating from Rock Rapids High School in 1952.
On April 2, 1954, Eleanor was united in marriage to Kenneth W. DeBoer, who was the love of her life, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, Iowa. The couple made their home in Little Rock from 1954 to 1956; moved onto the family farm northwest of Little Rock until April 1986 when their farm was destroyed by a tornado. They then moved to another farm near Little Rock, Iowa where she remained until her passing. Eleanor and Kenneth enjoyed farming together. She could often be found milking cows or helping in the field. They sold seed corn and soybeans for forty years for which Eleanor did the bookkeeping. They also enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel, attending different churches along the way, and meeting new people. Eleanor loved having coffee guests, reading, traveling, gospel music, playing five crowns, gardening, embroidery, and tending her flowers. Eleanor was a devoted member of the Bethel Reformed Church of Little Rock. Faith and family were very important to her. She was devoted to God’s Word and enjoyed teaching and sharing His Word with her family; often saying she wants to see all of her children, grandchildren, and the generations to follow in Heaven.
On Monday, June 27, 2022, at the age 87, Eleanor was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Waiting in heaven to greet her were her husband, Kenneth; parents, Theodore and Louise; sons, Jeffrey, Larry, and Terry; grandchildren, Joni DeBoer, Matthew DeBoer and Sophia DeBoer; brother, Vernon Reemtsma; and sister, Carolyn Stratman.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Renae (David) Vander Schaaf of Alton, IA, Kevin (Alleen) DeBoer of Ellsworth, MN, Rhonda Schuck of Little Rock, IA; Cynthia (Jeff) VanDerWeide of Maurice, IA, David (Heather) DeBoer of Little Rock, IA, Melanie (Jerry) Van Grouw of Orange City, IA, Don (Dawn) DeBoer of Little Rock, IA and daughter-in-law, Judy DeBoer of Rock Rapids, IA; 27 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; siblings, Leora Reemtsma of Rock Rapids, IA, Lynn (Jane) Reemtsma of Maple Grove, MN, Linda (Lynn) Molendorp of Spirit Lake, IA, sister-in-law, LaVonne Reemtsma of Sioux Falls, SD, brother-in-law, George Stratman of Sibley, IA; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.
