Douglas Paul Thiner, age 62, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Friday, November 28, 2025.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, with Pastor Terry Simm officiating.
Everyone is invited for a meal and a time of fellowship with the family following the memorial service in the church, New Testament Hall.
Doug was born on September 16, 1963, in Lakefield, Minnesota, to John and Margaret Thiner. He grew up in Lakefield and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1982. Doug has three siblings: Jeff (Vicki) Thiner, Monica (David) Olson, and Jason (Andrea) Thiner.
After high school, Doug attended Pipestone Vo-Tech in Pipestone, Minnesota. It was there, in an agricultural banking class, that he first met his wife-to-be, Lynelle Ann Doeden. Their connection grew quickly, and on March 30, 1985, they were married at First Baptist Church in George, Iowa. Together, they began building their family, welcoming their children, Anthony and Jessica, who would become the center of their world.
Doug spent 40 years committed to his career in the pork industry. He worked his way up from the kill floor to Plant Controller, serving for Monfort, Swift & Co., and JBS through multiple acquisitions. His work ethic, loyalty, and determination earned him the respect of coworkers at every level.
Doug’s greatest joy in life was his family—especially his grandchildren. His pride and joy were his children and their families: • Anthony & Suzanne Thiner, and grandchildren Anderson, Oakley, Ava (stillborn), Watson, Mila, Eleanor, and Mickelson Thiner • Jessica & Peter Loeschen, and grandchildren Aaliyah and Ryker Loeschen
Doug loved golf, cheering for his beloved Minnesota Vikings and Nebraska Huskers, and enjoying his yearly travels and peaceful vacations with Lynelle. His pride in his family was unmistakable—everyone who knew him saw how deeply he loved and admired them.
He will be remembered as a hardworking, loyal, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His quiet strength, gentle presence, and the warmth he wrapped around his family made each of them feel safe, supported, and deeply loved.
Doug will never be forgotten by the many friends and family who loved him. His unforgettable smile will remain in their hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and other extended family.
His family will forever carry his love, his example, and the lasting imprint of a life lived with heart and devotion.
