Douglas James Boeve was born on August 24, 1962, in Sioux Center, Iowa, to C. James and Sharon (Techen) Boeve. He spent his early childhood on a farm near Hull, Iowa, before the family moved in 1967 to a farm outside Beaver Creek, Minnesota—a place that would become the heart of his life and community.
Doug attended Hills-Beaver Creek schools, where he was involved in 4-H and FFA and developed the work ethic and love of agriculture that stayed with him throughout his life. He graduated in 1980. On October 4, 1985, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Bos. Together they built a life filled with devotion, partnership, and joy, celebrating 40 years of marriage this past fall.
After high school, Doug worked on the family farm and drove milk truck part-time for Marv Wassenaar. He later joined the Hills-Beaver Creek Co-op before finding his true calling behind the wheel of a school bus. For the past 23 years, Doug proudly served the Hills-Beaver Creek School District as a bus driver. He cherished his daily interactions with students, greeting each child with a warm smile and genuine interest. His riders were not just passengers—they were “his kids,” and he cared for them deeply.
Doug’s commitment to his community ran deep. He served on the Tuff Memorial Home and Thrivent boards and spent many summers helping serve meals at Bethlehem Lutheran Bible School. He believed in giving back, and he did so quietly, consistently, and with a servant’s heart.
Doug had a gift for conversation and a knack for making people feel welcome. He loved talking about farming, cheering on his grandchildren at their activities, rolling dice at Rauk’s, and spending Friday nights at Rapids Speedway. Racing nights were sacred to him—he rarely missed one. Above all, Doug was a devoted Christian whose faith guided his life. He loved his family, his community, and the many friends who enriched his days.
Doug is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lois Boeve of Beaver Creek, MN; his three children, Brianna (Mitch) Leuthold of Hills, MN, Brittany (AJ) Hoogeveen of Brandon, SD, and Brandon (Jenna) Boeve of Beaver Creek, MN; and his four beloved grandchildren, Raylan Leuthold, Boyd Leuthold, Presley Hoogeveen, and Boston Groff. He is also survived by his father, Jim Boeve of Hills, MN; his sisters, Wanda (Eric) Hoyme of Hills, MN, Sheryl (Lars) Nielsen of Otterup, Denmark, and Twila Heigre of Bryne, Norway; his sisters-in-law, Lila (Bill) Kroon of Rock Rapids, IA, and Lora (Bob) Sayler of Sioux Falls, SD; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Boeve; his parents-in-law, Lyle and Dorothy Bos; and his brother-in-law, Leo Bos.
