Dorothy Rockhill

Rock Rapids, IA

     Dorothy Rockhill age 98 of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Rock Rapids died on March 14, 2024 at The Gardens in Cherokee.  

     Funeral services will be 11:30am, Monday, March 18, 2024, at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids with Pastor Mike Agnew, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. 

     A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Jurrens Funeral home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cherokee Regional Hospice.

     Dorothy was born July 13, 1925, to Mark and Laura (Sedam) Kohrt in rural Rock Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids in 1942. She was united in marriage to Laurence Rockhill on July 9, 1945. They began their journey together on the family farm in Larchwood. A year later they moved to a farm near Rock Rapids.

     They moved to a home in Rock Rapids in 1950. They lived there until 1955 when they went back to farm life where they stayed until 1982. Dorothy went back to work in 1970. She held several jobs until the age of 79. She enjoyed her years of employment and the many people she met. She also loved baking, cooking and spending time with family and friends. In her later years, she enjoyed putting puzzles together.

     She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church (1940-present). She belonged to UMW and was a Sunday School secretary for many years.

     Dorothy is survived by daughters Linda (Tom) Nitzschke of Pender, Nebraska; Brenda (Stan) DeRoo of Cherokee, Iowa; one son Douglas, Harrisburg, South Dakota. She is survived by five grandchildren Lindsey Nitzschke, Rebecca Bieber (Nic), Eric DeRoo (Kate), Daniel Rockhill, Joshua Rockhill (Kristin): and eight great - grandchildren.

     Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Laurence, her parents, her brother, Elmer and one grandson, David.
