Donna Nagel, age 77 of Alvord, IA, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.

A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Ransom Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with Pastor Jesse Skidmore officiating.

Burial will follow in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery of Alvord, IA.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 24th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with family present, at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA.

Memorials may be directed to Ava’s House, 1320 W. 17th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.

Donna Lea Nagel was born on June 29, 1948, in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Donald LeRoy and Gladys (Van Laar) Severson. She grew up in Sioux Falls and later graduated from Washington High School.

On August 30, 1968, she was united in marriage to Lynn Nagel at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in Sioux Falls from August 1968 to 1974, when they moved to Alvord, IA, where they have lived ever since. Donna worked for twenty-eight years for Metz Baking Company, then for several years at various local food establishments.

Donna was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Alvord, IA. She enjoyed cooking, baking from scratch, reading, playing cards, cross-stitching, fishing, and taking care of her flowers. She and her husband, Lynn, took trips to Granite Falls fishing, to Alaska, and to Las Vegas for NASCAR races. Donna also loved the girls’ annual shopping trips and evening trips to the farm with Lynn.

Donna is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Lynn Nagel of Alvord, IA; three children, Mark (Sue) Nagel of Alvord, IA, Allison (Troy) Thiessen of Rock Rapids, IA, and Travis (Karlee) Nagel of Rock Rapids, IA; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Luke (Emily) Nagel, and their daughter, Kenlee, Kiah (Ty) Ulmer, and their son, Bodie, Landon Thiessen, Jacob Nagel, and Lillian Nagel; sister, Peggy (Craig) Sharpe of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Gladys Severson; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Emma Nagel; brother-in-law, Neil Nagel; and sister-in-law, Carlyn Jarm.
