Donald Andrew Sik passed away with family by his side on September 4, 2026, at the Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley, Iowa.
Don was born on August 29, 1939, in Hendricks, Minnesota, to his parents, Andrew and Alvera (Lang) Sik. He attended County School District 29 in Drammen Township in Lincoln County, Minnesota. He entered Lake Benton School as an eighth grader and graduated in 1957. He received his early sacraments at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, Minnesota.
Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Jean “Jeanne” Houselog, on May 6, 1961, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. They were blessed with six children.
Don farmed in Lincoln County, Minnesota, until 1965, when they moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa. He worked for Jim Rozema, Berkley Fishing, and Dan Ostermann Inc. Construction. He joined the Osceola County Secondary Road Department in 1978, where he worked until his retirement in 2002.
Don’s hobbies included raising sheep and showing them at the Clay County Fair, riding horses, casino outings, cruising in his “Old Yeller” pick-up truck, fishing, vacationing, camping, watching Matlock and western shows, and attending many family and class reunions, but above all, he enjoyed family time. He took pride in chauffeuring the Boy Scouts on camping trips. He enjoyed his membership in both the Saddle and Catfish Clubs.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Jeanne; children Scott (Verda) of Round Lake, MN, Shawn (Kim) of Paullina, IA, Michelle of Missouri Valley, IA, Joel of Bigelow, MN, Colin of Ocheyedan, IA, and Bradley (Kelsey) of Ottumwa, IA; eight grandchildren: Tabatha, Andrew (Natalie), Nick, Chris, Zach (Lizzy), Heather (Dillon), Parker (Scott), and Ruin; seven great-grandchildren: Billy, Zaria, Zayleigh, Deliah, Henley, Decorah, Hartley, and great-grand-pup Belle; sister Jeanette Pierret; brother, Roger (Sandi); brother-in-law, Darrell Houselog; and sisters-in-law Angie DeWitte and Marilyn Udstuen, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Helen Houselog; and in-laws: Bob Pierret, Rosella and Bob McGinty, Omer DeWitte, Doris and Joe Houselog Jr., Shirley Houselog, Bob Udstuen, and infant Leonard Houselog, along with several nieces and nephews.
Don will be remembered for his love for Nutty Buddy Bars and trading his Black Velvet Coke drink for Coca-Cola or Root Beer floats. Don enjoyed eating out, usually at Perkins or Pizza Ranch, where many family celebrations were held. In recent years, since his stroke, one could often hear him calling “Jeanne, come cover me up” or “I want COLD water.”
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
