David Kuehl, age 75 of Sibley, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Country View Manor in Sibley.
Memorial service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, Iowa with Reverend Tim Nappe and Reverend Steve Swenson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Baker Township Cemetery at rural Melvin.
Visitation will be Friday, February 17th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran in Sibley.
David Allen Kuehl was born November 28, 1947 to Allen and Elsie (Strubbe) Kuehl of Melvin, Iowa. He attended school and graduated from Melvin. He received a BA in Biology from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and his MNS in biology and earth science from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
Dave taught high school biology in Mitchell, South Dakota and a variety of sciences in the Ocheyedan Community School and the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School. He was an adjunct professor for Northwest Iowa Community College of Sheldon, Iowa teaching college biology at Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School. Dave enjoyed teaching and being with his students. Upon graduation, his standing comment was, “Make me proud.”
Dave was united in marriage to Arlene Stirler on May 24, 1985 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa. To this union, one daughter, Kathryn was born.
Dave’s hobbies were his dogs, flowers, and birds (watching and feeding). He was a long-time member and officer of the Iowa Prairie Lakes Audubon Society. Dave served on numerous committees, including the Osceola Community Hospital Board, Sibley Public Library Board, and many positions at the American Lutheran Church of Melvin, Iowa and Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley, Iowa, where he was a member. He enjoyed presenting wildlife programs at the Sibley Public Library, Heartwood Heights, and Country View Manor.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Arlene; daughter, Katie (Derek)Rick of Sioux Falls, SD; foreign exchange sons, Urs (Rachel) Grueter of Singapore and Phillip Grueter of Switzerland; his side kick, German Shorthair dog, Sophie; sisters, Diane (Jim) Lechman of St. Croix Falls, WI and Lynette (Mike) Doyle of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters-in-laws, Patricia Bosma and Elizabeth (Randy) Bruns; along with many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Elsie Kuehl; parents-in-law, Harry and Tennie Stirler; and brother-in-law, Leo Bosma.
His parting advice to all is: have faith, believe, and we will meet again.
