Rock Rapids, IA
Danny (Dan) Leon Simons, 69, of Rock Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home on March 27, 2026, at 1:50 a.m., surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew him best.
A memorial service will be at 12:00 PM, Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Faith Baptist Church in Rock Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Danny was born June 4, 1956, in Sergeant Bluff to Alvie Simons and Hazel Frye. After graduating from high school, he began working in the packing house while also doing carpentry on the side. Carpentry quickly became something he truly loved. Danny had a gift for building things with his hands, but the things he built most in life were the memories he created with the people around him.
Danny was a man who loved deeply. He cared fiercely for his family and friends and was the type of person who would give you his last dollar if you needed it. He was hardworking, loyal, and always willing to help someone out. Those who knew him also knew he had a stubborn streak, but it was part of the strong spirit that made him who he was.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Luz Simons, and his parents, Alvie and Hazel Simons and his twelve siblings.
Danny is survived by his children: Joyce of Minnesota, Windy (David) of Iowa, Danny Jr. of Iowa, Shelbie (Ethan) of Iowa, Codey of Minnesota, and Kaylie (Darjay) of Iowa.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Raven, Mikel, Marissa, Jasmine, and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Danny’s life was one of hard work, love, and devotion to the people who meant the most to him. The lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, his love will remain with his family forever. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to guide and comfort those who loved him most.
