Clay Allen Hansmann

Clay Allen Hansmann, age 68, of George, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 4th, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, with Reverend Drew Riter officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be directed to: George Emergency Management Services (GEMS), George Fire Department, or Immanuel Lutheran Church of George.

Clay Allen Hansmann was born on December 20, 1957, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Allen and Betty (Arends) Hansmann. He grew up on a farm north of George, Iowa. He attended George Public Schools and graduated from George High School in 1976. Clay then attended Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon for autobody repair.

On May 18, 1991, Clay was united in marriage to Debra Dieken at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, Iowa, and they made their home in George.

Clay worked several places throughout his life, such as the George Good Samaritan Society, Roger’s Body Shop, Rich’s Body Shop, DEMCO, Sudenga Industries, and Siebring Manufacturing.

He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, church council and treasurer, and was involved with the Luther League.

His hobbies and interests included camping at Cutty’s, fishing, and motorcycling with family and friends. He also loved listening to Dale Bakker Precious Memories and other old-time gospel music. Clay had a special bond with his family. His nieces and nephews will forever cherish their memories of Uncle Clay. Clay’s family members loved coming up with nicknames for him; Boo, Moe, Clay Clay, and Uncle Wammy were a few.

Clay was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory and honor his life are his wife of thirty-five years, Debra Hansmann of George, IA; his mother, Betty Hansmann of George, IA; three siblings, Michele (Travis) Dirks of George, IA, Stacey (Muayed) Dizaye of Sioux Falls, SD, Blair (Jennifer) Hansmann of George, IA; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Nanc Dieken, Steven (Josephine) Dieken, Michael (Karlene) Dieken, and Lori (Mark) Wiersma; nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, Allison (Brad) Sandbeck, Elise, John, Isaiah, Katherine Sandbeck, Andrea Dirks, Erin (Derek) Kosters, Ethan (Coral) Dirks, Arya (Brandon) Murray, Cameron & Soleen Murray, Elizabeth (Dylan) McMahon, Matthew Clay Hansmann, Johanna Hansmann, , Brogan, Blakely, Benton Kosters, Bjorn & Delilah Dirks, Bennett & Evelyn McMahon, Zachary (Megan) Dieken, Samuel Dieken, Danielle Dieken, Chad Dieken, Haddon Clay, Rowen and Sophia Dieken; and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Hansmann; grandparents, Henry and Alice Hansmann, and Grace Arends; father and mother-in-law, Elden and Darlene Dieken; and sister-in-law, Judy Dieken.

Debra and her family would like to thank everyone for all your love and support throughout the 30 years Clay battled with neuroendocrine cancer; A battle he faced with dignity, obedience, and faith.
