Cheryle Lichtenberg, age 75 of George, IA, died on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be held Friday December 26th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kenneth Eberline officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.
Cheryle Lichtenberg was born on May 11, 1950, to Donald and Eleanor (Wallworth) Gibbs in San Diego, California. She was the second of two children behind her brother, Donald. She graduated from Helix High School in 1968.
Cheryle met Terry Lichtenberg in 1968 while he was stationed in San Diego for the Navy. They were wed on February 2nd, 1969. Through Terry’s military service, the couple made their home at several locations throughout the country, including Pascagoula, Mississippi and Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After Terry left the service in 1972, they relocated to Spirit Lake; there, they owned and operated Grand View Cabins Resort while Terry worked as an electrician.
Terry and Cheryle moved to George in 1978 where they owned and operated Lichtenberg Hardware with Terry’s parents, LeRoy “Bud” and Lavina Lichtenberg. The couple welcomed their son Daniel into their home and lives in November of 1982.
Cheryle enjoyed gardening and flowers, reading, and fishing; she joined Terry on many fishing trips to Canada throughout the years. She had a heart for animals; she enjoyed feeding and watching wild birds and adopted several cats and dogs.
Cheryle faced some of life’s hardest battles with unshakeable strength and deep faith. A cancer survivor, she carried the weight of illness through much of her adulthood — yet she never let it dim her spirit or her will to fight. Whether she was working alongside Terry in the kitchen or decorating their Christmas tree with her treasured ornaments, she fought to live fully, not fiercely. Her silent strength and quiet resilience continually amazed and inspired her loved ones throughout her life. Cheryle was an incredibly strong woman, a loving wife and mother, and loyal friend. She will be missed by those that knew and loved her.
Cheryle is survived by her husband, Terry Lichtenberg; son, Daniel Lichtenberg and his partner, Nikki Portillo of Ames, IA; and brother, Donald Gibbs of George, formerly of La Mesa, CA.
Cheryle was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Eleanor Gibbs; and parents-in-law, LeRoy “Bud” and Lavina Lichtenberg.
