Betty Block age 89, of Adrian, MN died Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Sanford Luverne Medical Center in Luverne, MN.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 29th at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Little Rock, IA, with Pastor Peter Kolb, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bethel Reformed Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, January 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bethel Reformed Church.
Arrangements are in the care of the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA.
Family suggests masks be worn at the visitation and funeral service.
Betty Lou Block was born on June 30, 1932, in Little Rock, IA, the daughter of Jake and Bena (Huisman) DeBoer. She grew up in Little Rock and attended Country School there, and later graduated from Little Rock High School.
On September 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Virgil Block at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Little Rock, IA. To this union four children were born, Laura, Dan, Tim, and Sally. Betty and Virgil farmed near Ellsworth and Betty worked various places throughout her life, such as the Adrian Hospital, and Parkview Manor Care Center in Ellsworth, MN.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Little Rock, where she was very active in the church, especially the Dorcus Ladies Group.
She was very active helping Virgil on the farm and loved watching the chickens in the yard. She also liked to bake and watch the Minnesota Twins on TV. Betty and Virgil would plant a big garden each year and after harvest, they looked forward to taking their produce to town and sharing it with the community.
Betty is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Virgil Block of Adrian, MN; four children, Laura (Steve) Fresk of Windom, MN, Dan (Jo) Block of Adrian, MN, Tim (Laurie) Block of Johns Island, SC, and Sally (Scott) Roth of Red Wing, MN; eleven grandchildren, Clayton (Kara) Fresk, Jessica (Adam) DeRosier, Spencer (Anna Lauren) Fresk, Bryce (Lindsey) Block, Brett Block, Bridgett (Josh) Gacke, Brittany (Tucker) Mabry, Brandon Block, Calvin Roth, Solveig Roth, and Anja Roth; eleven great grandchildren with one on the way in June; one sister, Joyce (Everon) Kanengieter; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor DeBoer and JoAnn Block; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake, and Bena DeBoer; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma (Donald) Drenth and Pearl (Ed) Korthals; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Elmer (Vera) DeBoer and Kenneth DeBoer.
