A gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 to 1:00, Wednesday,  July 1st at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. 

Barbara Jo Stewart was born July 6, 1946, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of David and Lorene (Busch) Stewart. She grew up in Rock Rapids and attended Central Lyon High School.

In September of 1963, Barb was united in marriage to Jack Sorenson in Mitchell, South Dakota. They made their home in Bridgewater, South Dakota and were blessed with two children, Kathi and Kandiss. Jack passed away in September of 1965. Barb moved back to Rock Rapids after he passed away.

In 1974, Barb was united in marriage to John Vogel in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her family extended gaining five stepsons, Gary, Terry, Bruce, Jay, and David. Barb and John enjoyed taking Sunday afternoon road trips, fishing trips up to Minnesota, and going to the races. John passed away in January of 1998.

In the past, Barb worked as a cook for K Products and at the Merrill Pioneer Hospital. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed being outdoors in her garden. She loved to visit and share her goodies she would bake often after she retired.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kandiss Sorenson of Houston, TX; stepsons, Gary (Julie) Vogel, Bruce (Jan) Vogel, and Jay Vogel, all of Rock Rapids, IA, and David Vogel of Long Beach, CA; grandchild, Jacob Jorenby; 8 step grandchildren; 15 step greatgrandchildren; son-in-law, Rocky Kleinsmith of Madison, WI; siblings, Sandy (Stan) Hinsch, Linda Trei, and Ron (Michele) Stewart of Rock Rapids, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lorene; first husband, Jack Sorenson; second husband, John Vogel; daughter, Kathi Kleinsmith; stepson, Terry Vogel; stepdaughter-in-law, Lisa Vogel; step-grandson, Devon Hommes; and brother, Jim Stewart.
