Arthur Symens age 77 of Madison Lake, MN originally of George, Iowa died Saturday, August 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
A Memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM Friday, August 21, 2020 at Zoar Presbyterian Church of rural George, IA with Rev. John Pea officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Zoar Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The visitation will also be Friday, August 21st, one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 AM to the time of service at Zoar Presbyterian Church rural George, IA.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Arthur to be held on Sunday, August 23 at Chankaska Creek Ranch & Winery in Kasota, MN from 1pm – 4pm.
Memorials may be directed to the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org) in Arthur Symens name.
Arthur Frederick Symens Jr. was born March 6, 1943 in George, Iowa, the son of Arthur John and Gladys (Trei) Symens. He was raised in George and graduated from George High School in 1961. He continued his education at Mankato Business College.
Arthur married Carole Meester on November 2, 1963 in George, IA. Together they raised two daughters, Cathryn and Michelle. They divorced in 1977. He began his career in Agricultural Business Management, Real Estate and Property Management. On July 14, 1984 he married Fern M. Ouverson in St. Peter, MN. Prior to retirement he worked at Coldwell Banker Commercial Fisher Group.
Arthur was a member of churches in Minnesota and Florida, Jaycees, Elk’s Club, the Mankato Golf Club and Grandezza Golf Club in Estero, FL. He enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, riding motorcycles, traveling, life at the lake, being a tour guide, church activities and socializing with friends. Most of all, Arthur cherished time with family. His faith was very important to him. He will be remembered as a man of faith, generosity, and his love for life. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a kind word to share!
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Fern M. Symens of Madison Lake, MN; four children: Cathryn (husband, Brett) Cole of Mondovi, WI, Michelle (husband, John) Kawohl of Woodbury, MN, Chad (wife, Vidya) Ouverson of New Prague, MN and Shelly (husband, Tom) Peterson of Apple Valley, MN; six grandchildren: Anna (husband, Chris) Duncan, Jaelene Cole, Connor Cole, Chandler Peterson, Lauren Peterson and Morgan Peterson; brother, Burdell (wife, Marlys) Symens of Windom, MN; sister, Elaine (husband, Richard) Rypkema of Hot Springs, AR; sisters-in-law: Maxine Symens, Sharon Symens, Pam Symens, Mary Meister and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gladys Symens; and four brothers: Delbert, Marlyn, Dale and Ervin Symens.
With sincere appreciation to DaVita Dialysis of North Mankato, MN; Ecumen Home Care and Ecumen Hospice, Dr. “Hari” Korsapati M.D., Reverend Audrey Lukasak and Freedom Home Care all located in Mankato, MN for the excellent care and support they provided to Arthur and our family.
