Arthur Flier

Arthur “Art” Flier, age 79 of Rock Valley, IA, formerly Rock Rapids, IA, died Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Crown Point Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 16th, at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids with Pastor Amy Ryals officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, with military honors by Rex Strait American Legion Post No. 103 and Van Anne-Fields VFW Post No. 6960.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Arthur E. Flier was born on September 1, 1946, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Christina (Van Riesen) Flier. He grew up in Rock Rapids and attended country school there. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 1, 1967, and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1969. During his time in the service, he was united in marriage to Roberta Garrison on September 7, 1967. Following his discharge from the military, the couple farmed near Rock Rapids, Iowa. Together Arthur and Roberta raised two children, Lisa and Michael. Art was a crop farmer and had animals as well. He was an animal lover and enjoyed caring for his farm animals, cats, and St. Bernard dogs throughout the years. When Art and his wife, Roberta, moved off the farm into town, Art did snow removal for various places in town. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, and he was very active with the American Legion of Rock Rapids. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Roberta Flier of Rock Valley, Iowa; daughter, Lisa (Butch) Blum of Rock Valley, Iowa; son, Michael (Gina) Flier of Branson, MO; six grandchildren, Sammy (Austin) Moss of Alton, Iowa, Lizzy Blum of Rock Valley, Iowa, Ben Blum (fiancé, Hannah Van Ginkel) of Rock Valley, Iowa, Nicole (Cory) Panzica of Norwood, Missouri, Brittany (Kevin) Bittle of Nixa, Missouri, and Christopher (Brittany) Flier of Ozark, Missouri; and seven great grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Marven (Deb) Flier of Alvord, Iowa; sister-in-law, Gayle Garrison; two brothers-in-law, Patrick (Sharon) Garrison of Billings, Montana and Earl (special friend, Ronny Larson) Garrison of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Christina Flier; parents-in-law, Bert and Edna Garrison; brother-in-law, Rod Garrison, and sister-in-law, Shari Garrison.
